SEA SALT

Many people, especially those with high blood pressure, have been advised to reduce their salt intake. However, research studies are now showing that it is not sodium intake per se that aggravates high blood pressure. It is the excess of sodium in relation to potassium. In its natural form, salt straight from the sea, contains a balanced ratio of sodium and potassium. However, in the refining process, salt companies strip natural sea salt of potassium, magnesium, calcium and other trace minerals. Ironically, they often sell these minerals to companies that make nutritional supplements!

The solution is simple. Whenever possible buy and use natural sea salt available at most health food and natural food stores.

DID YOU KNOW?

Nutra sweet is broken down into formaldehyde by your body’s natural processes.
Estrogen replacement therapy can suppress your level of thyroid hormone.
The amount of sugar in one soft drink depresses your immune system functioning by almost 50% for up to 7 hours.
Large doses of vitamins C and E, taken before a meal, reduces the impaired blood vessel function caused by artery-clogging hydrogenated oils.

2 COMMON CAUSES OF FATIGUE

If you are tired much of the time there are 2 possible causes that you may not have considered. Iodine deficiency is a common source of fatigue for low levels of iodine can impair thyroid functioning, and a sluggish thyroid often leaves you feeling tired and weak. However, the most common cause of ongoing fatigue is food allergies and sensitivities. Most people don’t realize that they have food allergies and most food sensitivities do not show up with standard blood tests. These sensitivities often trigger weakness, fatigue, and joint pain.

We can test you for these common causes of tiredness and fatigue. Call us for more information or to make an appointment.

TRANSFER FACTORS

Transfer factors is the name for specific cross species messenger molecules that convey information to your immune system, helping to strengthen it as it battles the various stressors and invaders that endanger your health.

Transfer factor molecules help your immune system in several ways. They increase its recognition of harmful invaders, help it plan an effective attack and respond effectively by adapting in a balanced way, and they help it remember specific invaders and risks so that if you are exposed repeatedly your body knows exactly what to do. These amazing messenger molecules increase the overall number of natural killer cells in the body and they strengthen their potency. Natural killer cells are the warrior cells of the immune system; they seek and destroy harmful cells through direct contact.

We now carry an advanced family of transfer factor products.

BIO TERRAIN TESTING

Bio Terrain Testing is a quick, in house testing modality, that can quickly and effectively provide information about what your body needs.

Vitamin C Test – accurately measures your level of Vitamin C, which is necessary for the immune system, vascular and connective tissue, and is a powerful anti-oxidant.

Calcium Test – accurately measures your calcium level, an essential for basic cell functioning, healthy internal organs, and bone development.

Oxidata Test – accurately measures free radical damage, which can lead to cell degeneration, fatigue, arthritis, allergies, high cholesterol, and degenerative heart disease. This test is 50 times more accurate than a blood serum free radical test.

Electrolyte Test – electrolytes conduct electricity as their mineral salts dissociate into electrically polarized ions. All cells need an electrical charge to stimulate the energy that generates cell functioning. Electrolytes are minerals, which are suspended in a colloidal solution that has the capability of conducting an electrical charge. Balanced electrolyte solutions can enhance every tissue and cell function. When imbalanced, inconsistent conductivity and resistance patterns can upset normal electrical flow through the cells. High salts means electrolyte stress, which can result in hypertension, kidney and adrenal stress, migraines, nervous tension, cardiac stress, etc. Low salts means electrolyte weakness, which can result in anemia, exhaustion, hypo-tension, kidney and adrenal weakness, etc.

Cell Debris Test – measures the environmental and internal toxicity found in the urine from metabolic poisonous waste, heavy metals, unusable and poorly digested foods, etc.

Nitrate Test – Nitric oxide is a molecule that signals the body to make blood vessels relax and widen. It plays a vital role as a central nervous system neurotransmitter, modulator of neuro-endocrine control, growth factor signaling, and renal regulation.

HAPPY SPRING!

Spring is a season of rebirth, revitalization, and growth. The foods that flourish in Spring provide us with natural cleansing, healing agents which restore our innate vigor and vitality. Here are a few examples:

ASPARAGUS – acts as a general stimulant to the kidneys. Because asparagus contains chlorophyll, it is a good blood builder. Green asparagus tips are high in vitamin A, while the white tips have almost none. The tips benefit the spleen and stomach, dispel mucous, lubricate the intestines, and help in the formation of red blood corpuscles. Select fresh, tender asparagus, cook them in stainless steel with the tips up to preserve their vitamin B and C. Caution – excessive amounts of asparagus can irritate the kidneys especially if there is prior inflammation.

PEPPERMINT – a hybrid of spearmint and water mint, the menthol in peppermint’s volatile oil provides a therapeutic effect as an antiseptic, anti-fungal, and anesthetic. Peppermint is effective in treating nausea, flatulence, indigestion, menstrual cramps, motion sickness, colic, migraines, and it can be used to fight infectious respiratory ailments and herpes. Caution: mint can irritate mucus membranes, and should not be given to children for longer than 1 week. Peppermint may also reduce milk flow and should be used carefully when nursing.

BASIL – used as a medicinal herb as well as a fragrant culinary seasoning, basil has antispasmodic properties. It is used to treat nausea, gas, morning or motion sickness, nervousness, and coughs. Caution: basil should not be used when pregnant or nursing, or given to infants or toddlers.

TARRAGON – an aromatic herb, which promotes bile production by the liver and thus enhances digestion. Tarragon tea can be used to help digest fat and relieve gas. Chewing tarragon leaves has a numbing effect in the mouth and is used as a folk remedy for toothaches.

STRAWBERRY – these fruits are at their peak of abundance in April and May. Strawberries are a good source of vitamin C and contain ample fruit sugar. They are used to combat viruses and to heal acne, ringworm and skin ulcerations. Strawberries are though to reduce cancer risks. Caution: If you get hives from eating strawberries, you can try rinsing them first with hot water, then with cold, try a small amount to see if they are easier to tolerate.

CHERRY– these fruits are high in iron, which makes them a wonderful blood builder. They are en excellent laxative, and are also effective in stopping dysentery and diarrhea. Cherries strengthen the spleen, stimulate appetite, and regenerate fluids. They are also used to treat burns, measles, gout, rheumatism, and arthritis.

CRANBERRY– these fruits are high in vitamin C and are known for their medicinal effects in treating urinary tract infections. They are also used as a remedy in treating rectal problems such as inflammation and hemorrhoids. Caution: it is best to buy pure, unsweetened cranberry juice and prepare it using as little sugar as possible.

“Perhaps the final step in the healing of all wounds is the discovery of the capacity for compassion, an intuitive knowing that no one is singled out in their suffering, that all beings are vulnerable to loss, attachments, and limitation. In is only in the presence of compassion
that we can show our wounds without diminishing our wholeness.”     Rachel Naomi Remen

OSTEOPOROSIS SCREENING

This urine test predicts the skeletal response, or bone mineral density, to hormonal antiresorptive therapy in post menopausal women, and can be used to monitor antiresorptive therapies.

This is the most accurate, specific test for identifying the probability for decreased bone mineral density one year post menopause. The test only measures bone collagen loss, which is the most specific indicator of bone resorption. It assesses which patients will receive the greatest long-term skeletal benefit from hormonal, herbal, dietary, and exercise therapies.

Heightened risk factors for osteoporosis in post menopausal woman, including early or surgically induced menopause, are:

Anorexia or bulimia
Use of corticosteroids and anticonvulsants
Inactive lifestyle
Cigarette smoking
Excessive alcohol use
